Directions and options to get to Tau Game Lodge
How to get there...
Option 1 - Self Drive:
- 360 km from Johannesburg, an easy 4 hour drive on National roads (see map) Rather do not use a GPS.
- From Pretoria take the N4 direction Rustenburg
- From Johannesburg travel via Fourways to Hartebeestpoortdam, following the signs to Rustenburg and Brits to begin with and once on the N4 continue this toll road to Rustenburg, Swartruggens, Groot Marico and Zeerust. Toll fees ± R 130.00.
- You may wish to re-fuel in Zeerust as there is no fuel available in the Reserve.
- In Zeerust, A green provincial road sign indicates a right turn coming up to Gaborone, continue to drive towards the next road sign just thereafter and then turn right onto the R 49 to Gaborone.
- Follow the R49 towards Madikwe Game Reserve for approximately 97km.
- First gate you will pass is Abjaterskop, drive past this gate for 7kms the next gate is Wonderboom, pass this and travel to the Kopfontein border post going towards Gaborone
- Turn right onto the Derdepoort Gate road, just before the border post and follow the road for approximately 10 km to the Tau lodge gate (all roads up to this point are tarred.)
Option 2 - Transfer by Coach or Minibus:
- Transfers and charters to Tau Game Lodge is available on request.
- Please contact Tau's booking office for details.
Option 3 - By Air transfer:
- Daily scheduled flights depart from Oliver Thambo Airport (Johannesburg International Airport)

Daily scheduled flights to Madikwe 2024
Flights depart from The Federal Air private departure lounge facility located in an exclusive part of O.R. Tambo International Airport, where complimentary soft drinks, teas, coffees, snacks, shower facilities & Wi-fi (inside departure lounge) is available.
Please note: Guests should please make their way to the Federal Airlines Kiosk situated in the Bus Terminal at OR Tambo International Airport located next to the Car rental terminal and the Intercontinental Hotel. Federal Air will provide complimentary transport to the Federal Air Departure lounge from there. Alternatively, directions to the Departure Lounge are available at www.fedair.com.
Very Important!
To facilitate smooth connections, kindly note the following:
- Connecting flights on the way to Madikwe must arrive at least minimum 2 hours before the Madikwe Flight departure time
- Connecting flights on return should be booked minimum 2 hours after expected return from Madikwe onwards for Local flights and minimum 3 hours after return from Madikwe onwards for international flights.

Rate includes a R60.00 per person Airstrip levy which is charged when landing in the Madikwe Game Reserve.
Excludes the Park entrance fee of R180.00 per person on day of entry into Madikwe.
Note: The Airstrip landing fee and Park entrance fee is subject to change without prior notice.
Excludes any fuel surcharge, which will be added to the above rates if applicable.
Note: A Single supplement rate will be applicable if there is only 1 person booked for flights, as a minimum of 2 people is required per booking for Madikwe flights. Please enquire as to what the applicable single supplement rate will be. |
| Please Note: All bookings for scheduled flights when traveling to Tau has to be booked by Tau Game Lodge Reservations team. Transfers between Madikwe Airstrip and Tau Game Lodge will be provided free of charge when flights are booked through Tau. |

| Luggage: Soft (all sides) luggage/duffel bags with one flat side will be allowed. Maximum luggage weight is 20kg (in the hold); luggage size is 40cm wide x 30cm high x 60cm long. Maximum hand luggage is 5kg (1 soft piece allowed with one flat side only). Federal Air offers soft sided bags which can be purchased at their lounge at an additional cost. |

| Excess/Additional Luggage – Federal Air provides a complimentary luggage storing facility, provided guests are booked on a return basis ex Johannesburg. Excess luggage always remains the responsibility of the affected passenger. On shuttle flights to accommodate additional luggage, an additional seat has to be booked and paid for in advance (subject to availability). |
